Lux et Umbra focuses on portraiture. The series draws upon certain innovations used in painting during the Renaissance, in particular the ‘chiaroscuro’ lighting technique, which uses extreme lighting ratios to produce drama and contrast. The name of the project is the direct Latin translation of ‘light and shade.’
